Overview
Designed for a Beijing Tongzhou District government creative agriculture project, this bone china cup integrates Eastern cultural expression — the interplay of void and form — into a functional object. The name "Yun" (蕴) means latent richness, something held within. Awarded China's highest government-level design honor, the 2010 Red Star Award.
Design Concept
The form explores the Taoist concept of xu shi xiang sheng — the productive relationship between emptiness and substance. The cup's negative space is as considered as its material presence. A physical product that carries cultural meaning without announcing it.
